Pantry Management
Ever come home from the store only to realize you already had three cans of tomatoes? Pantry Management keeps a running inventory of what's in your kitchen so you always know what you have before you shop.
How It Works
You add items to your digital pantry as you stock up, and remove them as you use things. Map Your Store tracks expiration dates and warns you when something is about to go bad. Before your next shopping trip, a quick glance at your pantry helps you skip items you already have and focus on what you actually need.
Getting Started
- Open the Pantry -- Navigate to the Pantry section from the main menu.
- Add items -- Tap Add Item and enter the item name. You can optionally set a quantity and an expiration date.
- Browse your inventory -- Your pantry shows everything you currently have on hand, organized for easy scanning.
Adding and Removing Items
- Add manually -- Tap the add button and type in the item name, quantity, and expiration date (if applicable).
- Add from receipts -- After scanning a receipt, you can send purchased items straight to your pantry with one tap.
- Remove items -- When you use something up, swipe or tap to remove it from your pantry.
- Adjust quantities -- If you use part of something, update the quantity so your inventory stays accurate.
Expiration Tracking
Nobody likes finding expired food at the back of the shelf. Map Your Store helps you stay on top of freshness:
- Set expiration dates -- When you add an item, enter its expiration or best-by date.
- Expiring soon alerts -- Items approaching their expiration date are highlighted so you can use them before they go to waste.
- View expiring items -- A dedicated view shows everything that's expiring soon, sorted by date, so you can plan meals around what needs to be used first.
Avoiding Duplicate Purchases
Before you head to the store, your pantry works alongside your shopping list:
- When adding items to your shopping list, check your pantry to see if you already have it at home.
- Items you have in stock are easy to spot, helping you avoid buying duplicates.
- Over time, this saves money and cuts down on food waste.
Tips
- Get in the habit of updating your pantry right after you unpack groceries -- it only takes a minute and keeps everything accurate.
- Use the expiring-soon view when planning meals for the week. Build your menu around items that need to be used up first.
- If you scan receipts regularly, your pantry can stay mostly up to date with very little manual effort.
- Even rough expiration dates are better than none. If you're not sure of the exact date, estimate -- you'll still get a helpful heads-up before things go bad.
