AI Shopping Assistant
Sometimes you just need to talk through your shopping. The AI Shopping Assistant is a conversational chat interface that helps you build lists, find substitutions, get recipe ideas, and answer questions about items -- all in natural language.
How It Works
Open the AI Assistant from anywhere in the app and start typing. Ask questions like you would ask a knowledgeable friend who happens to know a lot about groceries. The assistant streams its responses in real time, so you see answers as they're being generated. Your conversation history is saved, so you can pick up where you left off.
What You Can Ask
The assistant is flexible, but here are some of the most common ways people use it:
- Build a shopping list from scratch -- "I need stuff for tacos for four people" and the assistant generates a complete ingredient list that you can add directly to your shopping list.
- Find substitutions -- "What can I use instead of heavy cream?" and get options based on your dietary profile if you have one set up.
- Get recipe suggestions -- "What can I make with chicken thighs, rice, and broccoli?" and get meal ideas based on what you already have.
- Estimate nutrition -- "How many calories are in a serving of this recipe?" for a quick nutritional overview.
- Ask about items -- "Is almond milk gluten-free?" or "What's the difference between baking soda and baking powder?" for quick answers while you shop.
- Restock suggestions -- "What do I usually buy that I might be running low on?" and the assistant checks your purchase history and pantry to give personalized recommendations.
Adding Items to Your List
When the assistant suggests items or generates an ingredient list, you can add them to your shopping list with a single tap. No need to copy and retype anything -- the integration is seamless.
Conversation History
Your conversations are saved automatically. You can:
- Continue a conversation -- Pick up where you left off without repeating context.
- Start fresh -- Begin a new conversation anytime if you want a clean slate.
- Reference past chats -- Look back at previous conversations for recipes or suggestions you liked.
Tips
- Be specific about quantities and servings. "Ingredients for pasta for two" gives better results than just "pasta ingredients."
- The assistant knows about your dietary profile if you've set one up. You don't need to remind it that you're vegetarian every time.
- If a response isn't quite right, follow up with clarification. "Make that dairy-free" or "I need a cheaper option" works naturally.
- The assistant is great for meal prep planning. Try "Plan five lunches I can prep on Sunday" for a batch cooking starting point.
