Dietary & Allergen Profiles

Everyone eats differently. Dietary profiles let you tell Map Your Store about your food restrictions, preferences, and allergies so that every recommendation, meal plan, and shopping list works for the way you actually eat.

How It Works

Set up your dietary profile once and Map Your Store uses it everywhere. When AI suggests meals, it filters out anything that doesn't match your restrictions. When the Auto-Planner builds your weekly plan, it respects your preferences automatically. And if an item on your list might contain an allergen, you'll see a warning before you buy.

Setting Up Your Profile

Head to Settings and find the Dietary Profiles section. From there you can configure:

  • Dietary restrictions -- Select from common options like vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, keto, paleo, and more. You can select as many as apply.
  • Cuisine preferences -- Tell us what kinds of food you enjoy -- Italian, Mexican, Asian, Mediterranean, and others. This helps AI suggestions feel more personalized.
  • Disliked items -- List specific ingredients you want to avoid, even if they aren't allergens. If you can't stand Brussels sprouts, we won't suggest them.
  • Max prep time -- Set the longest you're willing to spend cooking a single meal. Suggestions will stay within this limit.
  • Default servings -- How many people are you usually cooking for? This sets the default portion size for recipes and meal plans.

How Profiles Are Used

Your dietary profile feeds into several features across the app:

  1. Meal planning -- AI meal suggestions only include recipes that match your restrictions and preferences.
  2. Auto-Planner -- The weekly auto-planner uses your full profile (restrictions, cuisines, prep time, servings) to build a plan that works for you.
  3. Recipe import -- When you import a recipe, the app flags any ingredients that conflict with your dietary restrictions.
  4. Shopping list warnings -- Items that may contain allergens are flagged so you can double-check before purchasing.

Family Profiles

If you're on a Family Plan, each household member can set up their own dietary profile. When planning meals for the family, the system considers everyone's restrictions and finds meals that work for the whole group -- or suggests variations where needed.

Tips

  • Be specific with disliked items. "Fish" is better than "seafood" if you're fine with shrimp but not salmon.
  • Setting a realistic max prep time leads to better suggestions. If you typically cook for 30 minutes on weeknights, set it there rather than aspirationally at 60.
  • You can update your profile anytime. Changes take effect immediately for all future suggestions and plans.
  • Cuisine preferences influence suggestions but don't exclude other options entirely. You'll still see variety in your meal plans.
