Notifications

Stay in the loop without constantly checking the app. Notifications let you know when something important happens -- a price drops on an item you're watching, someone updates a shared list, or a pantry item is about to expire -- so you can take action at the right time.

How It Works

Map Your Store sends you notifications when events happen that are relevant to you. Notifications appear in two ways: inside the app (through the notification bell) and, if you opt in, as web push notifications that reach you even when you're not using Map Your Store. You control exactly which types of notifications you receive.

In-App Notifications

The notification bell in the app header keeps you informed at a glance.

  • Unread count -- A badge on the bell icon shows how many unread notifications you have.
  • Notification list -- Tap the bell to see all your recent notifications, with the newest at the top.
  • Mark as read -- Tap a notification to mark it as read, or use Mark All Read to clear everything at once.

In-app notifications are always available and don't require any extra setup.

Web Push Notifications

Want to know about important updates even when you're not in the app? Web push notifications deliver alerts straight to your device.

  1. Enable push notifications -- Go to your notification preferences and turn on push notifications. Your browser will ask for permission to send notifications.
  2. Receive alerts -- When something happens (like a price drop), you'll get a notification on your device even if Map Your Store isn't open.
  3. Tap to open -- Tapping a push notification takes you directly to the relevant part of the app.

Push notifications work on desktop and mobile browsers that support the Web Push standard.

What You'll Be Notified About

Map Your Store can notify you about a variety of events:

  • Price alerts -- An item on your watch list has dropped in price or hit your target price.
  • Shared list updates -- Someone added, removed, or checked off items on a list you're part of.
  • Proposal status -- A store change proposal you submitted has been approved or rejected, or someone commented on it.
  • Expiring pantry items -- Something in your pantry is approaching its expiration date.
  • Collaborative shopping -- A member joined your shared list, items were assigned to you, or someone sent a message in the list chat.

Managing Your Preferences

You decide what's worth a notification and what isn't.

  1. Open notification preferences -- Go to your account settings and find the Notifications section.
  2. Toggle notification types -- Turn individual notification categories on or off based on what matters to you.
  3. Choose delivery method -- For each category, decide whether you want in-app notifications, push notifications, or both.

Your preferences are saved and apply across all your devices.

Tips

  • Start with all notifications enabled, then turn off the ones that feel noisy after a week or two. It's easier to pare down than to guess what you'll want.
  • Price alerts are one of the most valuable notification types -- set a watch on items you buy regularly and let Map Your Store tell you when to stock up.
  • If you share lists with family, keep shared list notifications on so you always know when someone adds something or finishes shopping.
  • Use Mark All Read after catching up to keep your notification count clean and make new notifications easier to spot.

Shop smarter, not harder.
