Use AI-Powered Features
Map Your Store includes several AI-powered features that save you time and make planning easier. This guide walks you through the three main ones: the AI Shopping Assistant, Floor Plan Recognition, and the Auto-Planner.
AI Shopping Assistant
The AI Assistant is a conversational chat that helps you with shopping-related questions and tasks.
- Open the assistant -- Look for the AI Assistant icon in the app's navigation. Tap it to open the chat interface.
- Ask a question or make a request -- Type naturally. For example:
- "What do I need to make chicken stir fry for four people?"
- "Suggest a substitute for butter in baking."
- "What's on my shopping list that I could skip this week?"
- Watch the streaming response -- The assistant generates its answer in real time, so you'll see text appear as it works.
- Add items to your list -- When the assistant suggests items or ingredients, tap to add them directly to your shopping list.
- Continue the conversation -- Follow up with clarifications like "make that gluten-free" or "add a dessert too." The assistant remembers the context of your conversation.
Your conversations are saved automatically, so you can come back to reference past suggestions anytime.
Floor Plan Recognition
Quickly map a new store by scanning its directory sign instead of drawing everything from scratch.
- Open the store editor -- Go to Map Your Store and either create a new store or open an existing one for editing.
- Click "Scan Floor Plan" -- You'll find this in the drawing tools toolbar.
- Upload or photograph an image -- Use a photo of the store's directory sign, a floor plan printout, or any overhead layout image. Clear, straight-on photos work best.
- Wait for the AI to analyze -- The system processes the image and identifies aisles, entrances, checkouts, and the store boundary. This typically takes a few seconds.
- Review the preview -- The recognized features appear overlaid on the map with names and categories. Check that the layout looks reasonable.
- Make adjustments -- Rename any mislabeled aisles, fix categories, or remove features that weren't detected correctly.
- Apply the layout -- When everything looks right, apply the features to your store. You can continue editing manually from there.
This works especially well as a starting point. Even if the AI doesn't get everything perfect, it usually captures enough to save you significant drawing time.
Auto-Planner
Let AI plan your meals and shopping for the entire week.
- Go to the Auto-Planner -- Find it in the main navigation or from the Meal Planning page.
- Set your preferences -- Review and adjust your dietary restrictions, cuisine preferences, budget, servings, and max prep time. These default to your saved dietary profile if you have one.
- Tap "Generate" -- The AI considers your pantry (to use up expiring items), current store deals, your budget, and your cooking preferences to build a 7-day meal plan.
- Review the meal calendar -- See every meal laid out across the week. Check that the meals look appealing and practical for your schedule.
- Review the shopping list -- The planner generates a deduplicated shopping list with pantry items already subtracted. Each item shows a buy-or-wait recommendation based on price trends.
- Accept or regenerate -- If you're happy, accept the plan. This adds the meals to your calendar and the shopping list to your list. If something's off, adjust your constraints and try again.
The Auto-Planner is a Premium feature and works best when you have an up-to-date pantry and dietary profile.
Tips
- The AI Assistant is great for in-the-moment questions while you're shopping. Use it to find quick substitutions or check if you're missing anything.
- For Floor Plan Recognition, directory signs near store entrances usually give the cleanest results. Avoid photos taken at extreme angles.
- Before using the Auto-Planner, spend a few minutes updating your pantry inventory. The planner uses it to suggest meals that reduce waste.
- All three AI features learn from your preferences. The more you use them, the more personalized the results become.
