Scan Receipts

Turn your paper grocery receipts into useful data. Map Your Store uses AI to read your receipt, extract items and prices, and add them to your price history -- so you can track spending and spot deals over time.

Prerequisites

• A Map Your Store account
• A grocery receipt (paper or digital)
• A device with a camera, or an image of the receipt saved to your device

Steps

1. Open the receipt scanner. From the main menu, tap the receipt scanner icon. This opens the scanning view where you can capture or upload a receipt image.

2. Take a photo or upload an image of your receipt. You have two options:

   • Take a photo -- Point your camera at the receipt and tap the capture button. Hold your phone steady and make sure the entire receipt is in frame.
   • Upload an image -- If you already have a photo of the receipt, tap the upload button and select the image from your device.

3. AI extracts items and prices automatically. Map Your Store sends the image to an AI model that reads the text on the receipt. Within a few seconds, you will see a list of extracted items, each with its name, quantity, and price.

4. Review and confirm the extracted data. Look through the extracted items to make sure everything is correct. You can:

   • Edit item names if the AI misread something.
   • Adjust prices or quantities.
   • Remove items you do not want to track.
   • Add any items the AI missed.

5. Items are added to your price history. Once you confirm, Map Your Store saves each item and its price to your price history for that store. This data powers deal detection, price alerts, and buy-or-wait recommendations.

Tips

• Good lighting helps. Scan receipts in a well-lit area. Shadows and dim lighting make it harder for the AI to read the text.
• Flatten the receipt. Smooth out any wrinkles or folds before scanning. A flat receipt on a contrasting surface (like a dark table) gives the best results.
• Printed receipts work best. The AI is optimized for standard printed grocery receipts. Handwritten notes or heavily faded thermal paper may not scan as reliably.
• Scan sooner rather than later. Thermal receipt paper fades over time. Scan your receipts shortly after shopping for the clearest results.
