Offline Mode

Map Your Store works even when you don't have an internet connection. Stores you've visited are cached on your device so you can keep shopping without interruption.

How Offline Caching Works

When you view a store in Map Your Store, the app saves a copy of that store's layout and aisle data to your device. This happens automatically in the background — there's nothing you need to turn on. The next time you open that store, even without a connection, the cached version loads instantly.

On native apps (iOS and Android), cached data is stored using the device's local storage. On the PWA, the service worker caches app assets and recently accessed data.

What Works Offline

You can do the following without an internet connection:

• View cached store layouts — Browse the map, see aisles, and review store details for any store you've previously visited.
• View your shopping list — Your current shopping list is available offline so you can check items off as you shop.
• Browse trip history — Previously loaded trip records are accessible.

What Requires Internet

Some features need a live connection to work:

• Syncing changes — Any edits you make to stores, lists, or other data will sync once you're back online.
• Route optimization — Calculating an optimized route requires communication with the server.
• Price data — Price history, predictions, and buy-or-wait recommendations need live data.
• Barcode and receipt scanning — Looking up product information requires an internet connection.
• Collaborative features — Real-time shared lists, chat, and live cursor sharing need connectivity.
• Creating or joining stores — Searching for new stores and creating layouts requires a connection.

How Data Syncs When You Reconnect

When your device regains an internet connection, Map Your Store automatically syncs any pending changes. You don't need to do anything — the app detects connectivity and handles the sync in the background.

If there are any conflicts (for example, someone else edited a shared list while you were offline), Map Your Store resolves them so no data is lost.

Tips for Shopping Offline

• Open your store before you lose signal. Visit the store page while you still have a connection to make sure the latest layout is cached.
• Load your shopping list ahead of time. Make sure your list is visible on screen before heading into a store with poor reception.
• Don't worry about losing data. Changes you make offline are saved locally and will sync when you're connected again.
