Mapping Your First Store
Before Map Your Store can optimize your shopping route, it needs to know the layout of the store you shop at. This page walks you through creating a store map from scratch.
Already mapped?
If someone in the community has already mapped your store, you can find it in the Marketplace and add it to your account with one tap. Skip ahead to Your First Shopping Trip if your store is already available.
Create a new store
- From the home screen, tap Add Store.
- Enter the store's name (e.g., "Kroger on Main St") and address.
- Map Your Store will center the map on that location.
Draw the store boundary
Use the drawing tools to outline the store's footprint on the map:
- Tap the Draw Boundary tool.
- Tap points around the perimeter of the building to create the outline.
- Close the shape by tapping your starting point or pressing Finish.
This boundary tells Map Your Store where the store begins and ends, which helps with route calculations.
Add aisles
Now add the aisles, entrances, and checkout lanes inside the store:
- Select the Draw Aisle tool.
- Draw a line or rectangle for each aisle.
- To speed things up, try the Aisle Templates -- these are pre-built shapes for common layouts like standard aisles, produce sections, and deli counters.
Repeat this for each aisle in the store. Don't worry about getting it perfect on the first try -- you can always edit the layout later.
Name aisles and set categories
After drawing an aisle, give it a name and category so Map Your Store knows what products are found there:
- Name: Something you'll recognize, like "Aisle 3" or "Back Wall Coolers".
- Category: Pick from options like Produce, Dairy, Bakery, Frozen, Snacks, Beverages, and more. Categories help the app match your shopping list items to the right aisles.
You can also mark special areas:
- Entrance: Where you walk into the store.
- Checkout: Where the registers are.
These markers help Map Your Store plan routes that start and end in the right places.
Save your store
Once you're happy with the layout, tap Save. Your store is now ready to use for route-optimized shopping trips. You can come back and edit the layout at any time if the store rearranges things.
Next step
With your store mapped, you're ready to plan your first shopping trip.
